LensWork Portable Edition (downloadable)
These PDF versions of our print magazine, LensWork, can be viewed on your computer or
iPad.
Each issue is its own PDF. They are available individually or in sets — especially useful for easier downloading if you are purchasing multiple issues.
The PDFs are password protected but do allow printing for reading articles away from your computer.
The PDFs require Acrobat Reader version 6 or greater on a computer. On the
iPad you can use GoodReader or other PDF viewing software.
The download file is a ZIP file that you will need to unzip once you have it on your computer.
Special iPad Instructions for Safari
Downloadable content
from our online store is delivered via ZIP files.
Inside these zipped files you'll find the content PDF, video, or audio file
your ordered.
The iPad's default browser, Safari,
cannot process a ZIP file to open it directly, but our recommended PDF reader
app — GoodReader — can
unzip a file just fine. Here is the procedure:
- While using your Safari
(default) browser, tap on the "Download" link in either our
online store or in the email you received after purchasing a downloadable
product.
- Be patient, depending on the
file size and your Internet connection speed, it may require several
minutes to download the content file. You will see a blue progress bar in
the URL field that informs you of the download progress as it marches to
the right.
- Once the file is completely
downloaded, Safari will open a dialog box asking how you want to handle
the file. Typically, you'll be presented with two options, a button
labeled "Open in . . ." and possible a button labeled "Open in
GoodReader."
If you have an "Open in GoodReader" button tap it. If not, tap the "Open
in . . ." button and choose "GoodReader" as the app to use.
- The ZIP file will be
transferred to the GoodReader app and you will see it highlighted in blue
in the "My Documents" list, e.g., LensWork83.zip, Backgrounds_in_InDesign.zip, or some such name.
- Tap the ZIP file and
GoodReader will present you with a dialog box asking you if you want to Unzip it? Tap the Unzip button. The file will
"unarchive" and you will see your content file listed in the My
Documents pane, e.g., LensWork 83.pdf, or Backgrounds_in_InDesign.mp4, etc.
- Tap the file to open it!
Once the content
file has been unzipped from its distribution zip file, you may delete the zip
file. It will no longer be necessary now that the content file is available to
you in GoodReader.
